Dense decorative work at each short end
This cover is made from home woven hemp, the fibres of which were twisted whilst wet when woven, giving the cloth a slightly crinkled look known as Fodor in Hungarian (frilly " cloth). This cover some from one of the villages in the Kalotaszeg region of Transylvania. It was made as part of a dowry and has probably been kept n a dowry chest for much of its life. In excellent clean condition
Beautifully decorated at each end , with cutwork/whitework thoughout. This is a rare example.
