Antique Transylvanian Dowry Bed Pillow Cover .

Traditionally village houses in Transylvania had a best or clean room which contained a treasure trove of home made textiles. These pillow covers would have been piled 3 or 4 high on the best bed with the patterned portion facing the door 

These are from a Hungarian house in the Kalotaszeg area. The woven ticing portion is hand stitched onto the white body. Open ended
