Grain sack bench and floor cushion

Vintage  grain sacks make fantastic floor or bench cushions.  We can provide  feather pads to fit your grain sack. Either simply tie at one end with string or rope  or for a small price we can add your choice of fastening. Please email grainsacks@parna.co.uk for details

About

These sacks have been  hand woven, mostly from home spun vintage linen hemp. Hemp  softens and lightens with age and washing. These sacks date from the early 1900s to about 1940.  The cloth is fantastic and  the sacks are full of character. 

Vintage grain sacks come in a variety of weaves and stripe colours.  The stripe indicated to the mill the owner of the sack, ensuring that the milled grain when back to the correct owner. Some of these sacks also have beautiful hand embrodiered monograms. It seems incredible to us now that such work went into creating  such an item.

Care

Vintage grain sacks  are very strong , they were after all, made to carry heavy grain. They can be machine washed.
