Home Loomed Vintage Hungarian Linen Grain Sack. 114 x 53cmHome Loomed Vintage Hungarian Linen Grain Sack. 114 x 53cm

Heavy weight, slubby linen grain sack with red stripes.

This fabric was painstakingly home loomed and has a lovely home woven quality.

Hungarian linen is world renowned  and highly sought after for its quality.

The sack is one continuous piece and hand stitched at the sides, if you open it out you will have nearly 3 metres of cloth.

Laundered and is in good condition

Uses

These grain sacks have many uses from upholstery, to bath mats , blinds, laundry bags, table runners, bolster cushions… the list goes on. Vintage  grain sacks make fantastic floor or bench cushions.  We can provide a feather filler for your grain sack.

About

These sacks have been  hand woven, mostly from home spun vintage linen hemp. Hemp  softens and lightens with age and washing. These sacks date from the early 1900s to about 1940.  The cloth is fantastic and  the sacks are full of character. We have a large number in stock not all of which are  shown on our website.

Vintage grain sacks come in a variety of weaves and stripe colours.  The stripe indicated to the mill the owner of the sack, ensuring that the milled grain was returned to the correct owner. Some of these sacks also have beautiful hand embroidered monograms. It seems incredible to us now that such work went into creating  such an item.
