Home woven vintage linen grain sack.  Red stripes and monogram (8 cm) on pale stone. Slubby, medium-heavy weight.

This fabric was painstakingly home loomed and has a lovely home woven quality.

The sack is one continuous piece, hand stitched at the sides, if you open it out you will have over 2 metres of lovely cloth.

All of our sacks are have been laundered and are in excellent condition

Uses

These grain sacks have many uses from upholstery, to bath mats, blinds, laundry bags, table runners, bolster cushions… the list goes on. Vintage  grain sacks make fantastic floor or bench cushions.  We can provide feather fillers to fit your sack.

About

Vintage grain sacks come in a variety of weaves and stripe colours.  The stripe indictaed to the mill the owner of the sack, ensuring that the milled grain was returned back to the correct owner. Some of these sack also have beautiful hand embroidered monograms. It seems incredible to us now that such work went into creating  such an item.

These sacks have been  hand woven, mostly from home spun vintage linen hemp. Hemp  softens and lightens with age and washing. These sacks date from the early 1900s to about 1940.  The cloth is fantastic and  the sacks are full of character. We have a large number in stock not all of which are  shown on our website.
