About Hungarian Antique Linen Grain and flour Sacks

Vintage grain sacks come in a variety of weaves and stripe colours.  The stripe indictaed to the mill the owner of the sack, ensuring that the milled grain when back to the correct owner. Some of these sack also have beautiful hand embrodiered monograms. It seems incredible to us now that such work went into creating  such an item.

These sacks have been  hand woven, mostly from home spun vintage linen hemp. Hemp  softens and lightens with age and washing. These sacks date from the early 1900s to about 1940.  The cloth is fantastic and  the sacks are full of character.

This fabric was painstakingly home loomed and has a lovely home woven quality.
